Feb. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- CALGARY – Healthy Hands, a student-run business formed under Junior Achievement’s Company Program, has signed a large scale deal with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).  The deal has the CBE’s Noon Supervision Services department purchasing a large quantity of the company’s innovative product, the Healthy Hands Kit, for use in schools as an educational tool.

The kit, designed to educate and teach proper hand washing, includes a special gel which allows users to actually see how well they wash their hands.  The gel glows under UV light; by applying it before washing, a person can afterwards check with the light to see the areas they have missed.  In addition to gel and a UV light, each Healthy Hands Kit also includes hand sanitizer, tissues, hand lotion, scented soap, and an instruction booklet.

The educational nature of the kit and its particular appeal to children make the kit a great tool for the CBE to use to promote hand washing, particularly amongst the younger grades.

“This is awesome for Noon Supervision Services for CBE,” says Linda Pratt, Coordinator of the city-wide Noon Supervision program.  “Peers teaching Peers... by Telling, Showing and Doing: some students can be our “Tellers,” announcing over the school intercom the items in the Healthy Hands Kit and their importance to hand hygiene. Other students will “Show” why good hand washing technique is crucial to ensure we have clean hands before eating. For our students who learn from “Doing” we will offer the opportunity to see for themselves how well they wash their hands.   Introducing this process during the noon break should connect the dots for students – the importance for having clean hands before eating – as well as create an impact for personal story telling. Messages to take home and share with their family, that’s the objective.”
