Dec. 30, 2009 - PRLog -- The London Independent Film Festival 2010 will take place from April 15th to 27th at a variety of cinemas in London.  Run by award-winning film producer Erich Schultz, LIFF provides a vital platform for micro-budget and no-budget films in the UK and an important opportunity for independent filmmakers to showcase their achievements.

LIFF 2010 opens on Thursday April 15th 2010 with a screening of The Calling, a British feature film written and directed by Jan Dunn who won LIFF 2008’s Best UK Feature with the critically acclaimed Ruby Blue starring Bob Hoskins. Jan was able to use LIFF’s £50,000 prize, sponsored by Prime Focus London, to finance the making of The Calling. “We are absolutely delighted to be opening LIFF 2010 with Jan’s superb new feature, The Calling,” commented Erich Schultz.  “Ruby Blue really raised the bar at LIFF 2008 and proved that excellent entertainment can be produced on a small budget.  Jan’s done it again with The Calling which has universal themes, quirky humour, a great script and terrific performances, essential filmmaking ingredients.”
The Calling is a highly entertaining, original story written and directed by Jan Dunn and produced by Elaine Wickham.  With a stellar British cast, led by Academy Award nominees Brenda Blethyn and Susannah York and BAFTA winning actress Rita Tushingham, the ensemble cast also includes Susannah Harker and Amanda Donohoe.

“It’s an honour to be screening once again at LIFF,” said Jan Dunn. “The festival really can show how we filmmakers can get a film off the ground with little more than sheer willpower.  We make films because we have something to say but often we can’t compete with the sheer weight of a commercial feature to get our films onto a British cinema screen…so well done LIFF in giving filmmakers like us a starting point!”
As well as presenting the best of low-budget filmmaking in four categories – feature films, documentaries, UK shorts and international shorts - LIFF also runs the UK’s biggest screenplay competition sponsored by William Morris Endeavor.  Workshops are a popular part of the festival’s daily programme and talks by award winners – such as director Julien Temple, actor Bob Hoskins and indie champion Mike Figgis – were must-see highlights at LIFF 2009.

LIFF 2010 will take place at a variety of central London cinemas including the Curzon cinemas, the Coronet in Notting Hill and the Roxy in Borough.
On Saturday April 24th LIFF 2010 will present the Independent Filmmakers’ Fair, a one-day event which will bring UK filmmakers together with companies and organisations that provide products and services to the low-budget, independent film industry. The fair will be the first of its kind in the UK and LIFF is proud to be facilitating this event to connect the independent filmmaking community  Visitors to the event will be able to participate in professional workshops, network with peers, and meet the people and companies who serve their industry. Exhibitors will be able to meet and demonstrate their products and services personally to the independent film making community.
