A Person's world is only as big as his Heart and there is no doubt that it is not he who has much is rich but he who gives much.

Dec. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- Every BITSian knows that when a Mission is taken up with Passion, there are no dreams too large, no innovation unimaginable and no frontiers beyond reach. Proud to be BITSian US Tech Guru Ranvir Trehan had donated a whopping US$ 50,000 for the prestigious campus networking project BITS Connect commissioned in the year 2004. As on date he is the single biggest donor in the alumni history of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science – BITS Pilani.

BITSAA goal for 2010 is to double the amount raised by targeting Rs. 1 crore to fund an array of initiatives which include helping students with their graduate application costs, funding student travel to international conferences and sponsoring the new web portal, alumni directory and efforts similar to that of fellow BITSian Anitha Ashokan medical treatment whose case touched the heart of every BITSian.

BITSAA is very happy to inform that the money that was raised for Anitha Ashokan has reached the hands of her family. $12761 from the US account and $1960 from the India account was wired and Anitha's family has received a sum of about Rs. 6.8 lakhs in their account. The money is being used to settle her outstanding bills for now.

Anitha has been showing mild improvements and has been shifted to the Physical Medical and Rehab (PMR) facility where she is receiving physio therapy and speech therapy apart to revive her senses. The doctors are also hopeful and positive about her slow but steady recovery. Anitha's parents are simply overwhelmed by the efforts and contribution from BITSians and have profusely thanked BITSAA for lending a helping hand in her treatment.

Anitha's case struck a chord with BITSians all over the world and they offered their unwavering support, love and prayers throughout this campaign. Time and again, initiatives like this showcase the strong BITSian spirit and the passion to help a fellow BITSian in need. BITSAA bows to the persistent support of the alumni network for making this initiative a grand success and giving Anitha's family a helping hand in their hour of a crisis.

BITSAA gave the clarion call for donations on December 23, 2009 across the globe. The very next day Proud to be BITSian Naresh Kumar Reddy presently software professional at D E Shaw India Software Hyderabad who did B.Pharm (Hons) and M.E. (Software Systems) during 2001 to 2008 from BITS had come to Pilani to meet his friends happened to see the clarion call and immediately donated Rs 20,000/- to his alma mater. In an exclusive message to BITSAA, Naresh said that he is happy to have passed out of BITS Pilani else he would have probably been one of the five point someone 3 idiots.

This Christmas the global fraternity of BITSians has decided to think different and tell the world at large that BITSians indeed Rise Above the Rest when the situation warrants. For BITS Alumni, the New Year resolution is to join hands and support the various initiatives of BITSAA in as many ways as possible in the coming year.
