IL&FS Education's English Seekho program, one of the world's first integrated spoken english program with speech recognition facility has garnered over 40,000 subscribers since its launch in August 2009 on Tata Indicom.
Thousands of subscribers are in the process of learning english through the convenience of their cellphones. Many have completed the entire course and initial customer interactions and feedback have been extremely heartening and positive. The profile of subscribers ranges from engineers, doctors, fresh graduates, working girls and even physically handicapped.
Sunil Pilena, a visually handicapped subscriber from Jogeshwari, Mumbai remarked - "English Seekho is a boon for people like me since we do not have to travel to attend classroom training. I have been extremely happy with English Seekho's teaching methodology and I would want to re-subscribe for the service for brushing up my skills."
AK Singh, a 40 year old engineer from Jamshedpur says - "I am 40 and working and have no time to learn basic english skills. English Seekho has given me the confidence to speak fluent English at my workplace."
Ninad Vengurlekar, Head of New Media in Education at IL&FS ETS says - "Globally M-Learning is still at a nascent stage and therefore IL&FS Education is having deep engagements with its subscribers to develop the right instructional methodology and content that can impact learning. For example, English Seekho is built on IL&FS Educations' long experience in teaching english skills to over 200,000 rural and urban youth. We believe that M-Learning is more about quality of education delivery and less about mobile technology and hence our product development efforts in m-learning have been slow and cautious, rather than fast and frivolous. VAS, by default provides scale in India, and therefore we are focused on developing strong learning outcomes for our products rather than scaling them to more and more users."
IL&FS Education is now working on launching a Ver 2.0 of English Seekho that would be soon available in multiple languages globally.
