Oct. 23, 2009 - PRLog -- Now, Amy Hetherington from Majestic is highlighting why Chilean wines are growing in popularity and unveiling the secrets behind this perfect party wine.

Fast becoming a favourite of 2009 Chilean wines are often overlooked by many, but remain a firm favourite with the team at Majestic partly down to their consistent high quality and affordability.

Majestic’s online customer services and social media assistant manager, Amy Hetherington said, “Two of our most popular Chilean wines are Carmenere and Casillero del Diablo, and it is not hard to see why.”

Translated as ‘the cellar of the devil’, Carmenere was given its name by the original producer who wanted to keep locals out of his cellar as they were stealing his wines.  As a way of making them think twice he told them that the devil lived down there as a preventative measure, showing just how desirable these wines have always been!

Known for their depth of colour and, distinct flavour, Carmenere berries have a fairly high juice-to-skin ratio and tend to produce wines that are not as sharp as Cabernet Sauvignon.

Casillero del Diablo on the other hand, is the red grape that Chile is now famous for.  After an interesting and fruitful history that involved many believing it was extinct after it  was once thought to have died out in Bordeaux due to phylloxera, cuttings were clearly taken to Chile before this had occurred and were mistaken for many years to be merlot.

Boasting a much richer, chocolaty and velvety style than the ever popular merlot, this wine has shot back into the forefront of wine lovers’ sellers in recent months and it is expected to stay there for some time to come.

Miss Hetherington added, “No matter what sort of wine takes your fancy, Chilean wines have so much to offer.  Here at Majestic, two of our in house favorites include Santa Rita and Sauvignon Blanc because Chile do makes these styles of wines so well.  We would love to hear from any wine lovers keen to try Chilean wines for the very first time and our in store advisors will be very happy to advise them on the best choices to suit their personal tastes.”
