Majestic Pave The Way In Wine Knowledge With Global Training Programme

“All of our staff take part in the WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust)  training programme within 6 months of starting employment with us and it is this investment in people that we believe sets us apart from our competitors. We were delighted that seven members of staff received WSET "Awards of Excellence” in January 2009 for outstanding papers in their Advanced Certificate and Diploma Examinations.”

Once all members of staff have worked towards the advanced level of the WSET course, they are then given the chance to continue their studies with the diploma, a two year fully in-depth course.

Mr McRonald, from the firm who specialise in offering mixed wine cases and fine wine to their extensive client base, added, “Simon Milroy, the manager from our Battersea store is proof that the WSET course is fundamental in encouraging our staff to achieve the ‘unthinkable’.

“Simon realised his full potential through our training programme and decided to go for the Master of Wine qualification, of which there are only 280 Masters of Wine in the world, although this qualification is exceptionally difficult to gain, we are all behind him”

Mr McRonald added, “Not only are our staff trained to the highest possible level, we also host supplier tastings, whereby a supplier will come in and talk through his wines, and take us through complex tastings so the staff get a really hands on approach to the product range and it makes learning a lot less dry.

Earlier this year staff took part in a Bordeaux tasting held by Edouard Moueix, Sales Director and owner of Est Jean-Pierre Moueix, who distribute wines from prestigious appellations in particular Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, including Certan de May, Chateau Lafleur, Chateau Belair and Chateau La Serre as well as Dominus and Napanook from California.

Encouraging an extensive product knowledge in their staff, Majestic understand that such training can instil an unrivalled enthusiasm for the products within all employees, especially when that training is teamed with an insight into the passion behind the winemaking, and learning some fascinating stories along the way which have been shown in the new and improved wine blog.

Mr McRonald, added, “By organising trips to vineyards and wineries as guests of suppliers to countries as far out as New Zealand and Argentina, and arranging trips to the Vendange grape harvest, we can ensure that when customers visit our stores, they can be rest assured that we have not only a wealth of knowledge but we have actually tried the wines, know how they are made and can advise on some great food and wine matches.”
