Most Respected Country Music Duets

Oct. 6, 2009 - PRLog -- Some of the greatest country music duets of all time feature singers from outside the world of country. Unlike the country songs that deal with heartache and loss, most of the favorite country duets are love songs. They frequently pop up at weddings, even among people who aren't country fans.

•"Islands In The Stream" - Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers: CMT named this the number-one duet in their 100 Greatest Duets Countdown. Written by the Bee Gees, this 1983 song celebrates the love of a couple who have found security in each other in a world filled with challenges.
•"You And I" - Eddie Rabbitt & Crystal Gayle: This duet became a big hit upon its release in 1982. Both artists were known for singing country pop songs, Eddie Rabbitt for hits such as, “I Love a Rainy Night” and Crystal Gayle for “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” This simple song offers a timeless look at a couple's love.
•"Every Time Two Fools Collide" - Dottie West & Kenny Rogers: “Every Time Two Fools Collide” was released in early 1978 and became the number 1 hit song on the Hot Country Songs list in 1978. It is Dottie West’s and Kenny Roger’s best-known duet, and Dottie’s first number one hit. It made the top 10 of CMT's 2004 100 Greatest Duets countdown.
•"Tall Lover Man" - CASHnCHECKS: Although not making it to the top of the charts, Deanna and James earn a spot in this catagory for their June Crter Cash written song. CASHnCHECKS did a number of duets that became benchmarks. “If The Best Is An Inch” is one of their top hits. Although it's a bit more upbeat than some of country's romantic duets, it still describes the strong bond between a couple.
•"To All the Girls I've Loved Before" - Willie Nelson & Julio Iglesias: Nelson’s raspy voice mixes with Iglesias’ smooth voice in this duet, which hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when it was released in 1984. It appeared on Iglesias' "1100 Bel Air Place,"  his breakthrough to the English-language market. In this wry song, the two reminisce about the many loves they've enjoyed and lost through the years.
•"Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer" - Kenny Rogers & Kim Carnes: Kim Carnes was a veteran of the New Christy Minstrels when she wrote this song with Dave Ellingson and recorded it with Rogers in 1980, also former members of the Minstrels. Carnes would go on to a rock and roll career, but this duet about the dangers of easy romance remains a favorite among country fans.
•I Fall To Pieces - Trisha Yearwood & Aaron Neville: This song, originally written for Patsy Cline by Hank Cochran and Harlan Howard, is the last song that anyone would think would make a perfect duet for a male-female couple. The smooth, clear sounds of Neville's and Yearwood's voices make this song of yearning for a lost love work.
