Leeds Metropolitan University, UK starts its first campus ‘Leeds Met India’ in Bhopal, India

Sept. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- Bhopal : Leeds Metropolitan University, UK today announced the start of its first purpose built campus – Leeds Met India in India at Bhopal. This is the first South Asian campus of Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.

Leeds Met India, Bhopal is joint partnership between Leeds Metropolitan University, UK and JSWS, non-proprietary, non-profit charitable welfare organization from Bhopal dedicated to providing world-class standards of education in India and abroad. Leeds Met India offers exciting opportunities to study universally recognized Leeds Met, U.K degree at this exclusive purpose built campus. The campus offers undergraduate courses in the field of Business Management, International Hospitality Management.  It also plans to offer Postgraduate courses by 2010 including MBA and M.Sc in various disciplines.

During her visit to India campus, Prof. Elspeth Jones, International Dean, Leeds Metropolitan University, UK, said, “This exclusive state-of-the-art campus will provide high quality learning and leisure facilities. Students will enjoy savings of around 70 percent on the cost of studying in the U.K, for availing the same degree. As part of the course, students will have opportunity to spend one semester at Leeds Met, UK and will be eligible to sit for the UK placements. For International Hospitality Business Management course, students will be studying two years at India campus after which they will be sent to UK for paid placement for one year where they will have an opportunity to earn up to 10,000 to 12,000 pounds and then study at our Leeds Met, UK for one year. In this way students will gain exposure across two continents, which will enhance their professional development and career prospects”.

Speaking on the opening of its India campus, Prof. Phil Clement, Academic Director, Leeds Met India, Bhopal said, “Our courses delivered at Leeds Met India, Bhopal will replicate the U.K study experience. Students will study under a model followed in UK. Each course will have 24 modules to be completed in three years. Like abroad, there will be no specific textbooks, which will put an end to rote learning. Students will get access to all online resources of our UK campus. There will be no written exam, as our degrees will be based on their scores they get in their project work, presentations case studies and research dissertation. There will be faculty lectures every day, which students can attend as per choice. Post lectures, faculties will also hold daily seminars to discuss and formulate ideas on concepts learnt.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Hari Mohan Gupta, President, JSWS “Leeds Met India is a 36 acre residential campus with facilities like state-of-the-art library, Wi-Fi access hostel, recreation and fitness centre.  All the teaching areas are centrally air conditioned .The Library will remain open 14 hours a day to support flexible study and is equipped with latest technology, books, e-books, and other Internet based resources. The Wi-Fi enabled library has 150 computers with specialist software and access to printing and scanning facilities. The fitness centre at the campus includes half Olympic size swimming pool, squash and state-of-the-art gym facilities”.

Students completing undergraduate degree at Bhopal campus will be eligible to receive direct admission to the University’s postgraduate courses at Leeds Met, UK or Bhopal campus.  The students will be awarded an internationally recognized degree from Leeds Metropolitan University, UK.  The university has a long tradition of preparing students for employment success and has an excellent employment record.  They will have competitive advantage and enhance their employability.
