Sept. 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Playa del Carmen, Mexico – On Saturday, September 5, 2009, over 25 of Playa del Carmen’s most creative and talented chefs, restaurateurs, beverage purveyors and specialty food merchants gathered in the city center, the seaside Parque Fundadores,  to present their signature dishes  and culinary creations to the residents and visitors of this Mexican Caribbean city.

“It’s our first year. We really didn’t know what to expect.” remarked event organizer Monica Hartlief “I don’t think any of us anticipated that the event would be this well attended.” Nearly three thousand people came through the festival over the course of the day, some coming from as far away as Australia to enjoy the Caribbean sun and sample the food that has made Playa del Carmen a world class dining destination. With over 700 restaurants to choose from, the city has drawn the attention of food lovers from across the globe who come to experience the best of traditional Mexican cuisine and the eclectic fusion of flavors from international chefs who have chosen the Riviera Maya as their home and creative base.

The Taste of Playa Executive Committee is already making plans for 2010. Organizers anticipate that the festival will grow exponentially over the years, becoming a true destination event that will draw new visitors to the region and contribute to the cosmopolitan reputation of Playa del Carmen. Corporate Sponsors are already committing their support for next year’s event which promises to be bigger and even more diverse. Restaurants that were unable to secure a spot for Taste of Playa 2009 have been eager to sign on for the 2010 festival following the overwhelming success of this fledgling event.
