Maihar is a holy town of Madhya Pradesh State. Devotees from all over India visits ‘Maa Sharda Temble’ throughout the year. Temple is located in top of the mountain and can be reached through 1060 steps, road.  It is quite obvious that visit is not easy task specially for aged or physically unfit devotees. Considering the problem of devotees, management has decided to avail the service of ropeway service for devotees to reach Mother goddess Sharda Temple conveniently and in short time.

It is decided to begin the service from 19th of September, 2009 for general public. Fare will also be considerably nominal for devotees i.e. in between Rs.30/- to Rs.50/- per person.

One can visit Maihar in a excursion from Jabalpur. Most of the Indian tourists do visit Maihar temple while traveling from Bandhavgarh to Khajuraho or vice-versa. Indus Excursion is regularly organizing Single-day excursion tour of Maihar from Jabalpur.

About Maihar
Maihar city lies in Satna District of State of Madhya Pradesh. It is known for the temple of mother goddess Sharda. Sharda Devi (goddess) is situated in Trikuta hill of Maihar. Maihar is about:
42 km. away from Satna,
65 km. away from Katni,
165km. from Khajuraho,
160 km. from Jabalpur
145km from Bandhavgarh.

Nearest airport are Khajuraho or Jabalpur Airport. Maihar city is well linked with railways on Mumbai-Howrah rail track.

Temple of goddess Sharda is around of 502 A.D.. Traditional sacred stories says that when Lord Shiva was in state of deep sorrow and anguish, due to the death of Sati (Wife of Lord Shiva) and was roaming in earth with her dead body on his back. Lord Vishnu, came forward to save mankind and cuts the body of Sati in to 52 pieces. In Maihar necklace of Sati fell down and hence temple was established here. Its name “Maihar” can be broken to two parts “Mai” means mother and “har” means necklace.

.Maihar is also known for famous warrior and wrestler brothers Alha & Udal. They were strict followers of Sharda devi. They fought against Rajput ruler Prithvi Raj Chauhan for the ruler of Mahoba.

Music is in air of Maihar. Famous Maihar Gharana belongs to Maihar having prominent place in Indian Classical Music. One of the legend of Indian Classical Music Ustad Allauddin Khan (passed away in 1972) was from Maihar. His famous students are: world famous Sitarist Pandit Ravi Shankar
