Eenadu a leading Telugu newspaper reported on 02 July 2009 stating that Mr Nagesh from Adilabad had scored 993 out of 1000 to top the Andhra Board Higher Secondary Examinations for the year 2009 and also had secured direct admission to Birla Institute of Technology and Science - BITS Pilani. The paper had further reported that Nagesh comes from an economically disadvantaged family and that he would not be able to afford the education at BITS Pilani, which is one among the top ranking universities in India Today.
As soon as the news came, Proud to be BITSian Rakesh Anugula who is presently working at Citi Bank and one of the founding members of the NGO Nirmaan got in touch with the reporter to get the contact details of Nagesh ( Mobile 91-9848319458)
Based on Rakesh Anugula’s input, Proud to be BITSian Eashwar Koneru from BITS Alumni Association – BITSAA 75-80 batch swung into action and assured support from his batch so that the education of Nagesh at BITS Pilani is not affected due to want of financial support. The BITSAA 75-80 batch are already known in the global alumni forums for their initiative to do a Group Insurance Scheme for the Mess workers at their beloved alma mater. For more details about BITSAA 75-80 contact Eashwar Koneru Mobile 91-9849051361 Email konerueashwar@
The initiative taken by Proud to be BITSians Rakesh Anugula and Eashwar Koneru for the education of Nagesh goes to show that when a mission is taken up with passion, there are no dreams too large and no frontiers beyond reach. The alumni of the Institute are indeed ambassadors for Brand BITS Pilani.
In this context, it becomes essential for public at large to be informed that at BITS a large number of scholarship and fellowships are available to the students and that past experience shows that about 30% of the students receive some form of financial assistance or other. In addition, students also participate in nationwide competitions for bagging the coveted Aditya Birla Group Scholarships (ABGS) and other such ones.
