Every organization sets objectives. Every organization faces also threats, which could impact it severely, to the point of not realizing its objectives or destroying it. Realizing opportunities, while reducing threats to an acceptable level by the implementation of adequate controls, is a major challenge for every organization. The COSO report indicated risk management as a cornerstone of Corporate Governance. Every control framework is requiring the usage of Risk Management as a major approach to assess the importance of risks and enhancing the selection and implementation of adequate mitigating controls to mitigate the risk. The requirements of the Basel II capital accord, as well as the Sarbanes Oxley law, are even more emphasizing the importance of adequate understanding and implementation of Risk Management.
