The nuraghi are unique. They are the biggest megalithic sights of Europe and most of them are also still well-preserved. The millennium have not solved all the doubts on the nuraghi’s existence.
In Sardinia you can find a nuraghe every 3 kms so it is hard to believe that the towers belonged to powerful shepherds or to the normal people. It is not possible that many powerful shepherds could live so close to each other and it is not possible that there were only 20000 “houses” on the isle. The nuragic people probably lived in the huts near the nuragic “royal palaces”.

The nuragic wells are similar to the nuraghi’s architectural structure but they have been built underground. The wells had many symbols. They represented the female sexual organs like if they were the entrance and the exit towards the afterworld.
The fact that the wells were full of water (the water reminds the amniotic fluid) let us think that the wells wanted to represent the womb of the mother earth.
The descent (or the climb) of the staircase represents the passage from the light to the darkness and viceversa. The water represents the birth.

The Tombs of Giants, so called because of their gigantic dimensions, are another typical element of Sardinia's megalithic period. Usually the frontal part of their structure is delimited by some sort of semicircle (exedra), almost as to symbolize a bull's horns. Viewed from above the shape of the Tombs of Giants brings to mind that of an uterus or a woman in labour. This interpretation would confirm how closely connected life and death were for nuraghic people and how their megalithism was linked to the cult of fecundation.
