Avoid Costly Mistakes And Pass That MOT With Autoglaze

Leaving a chipped windscreen untreated could hit your pocket harder than anticipated, according to windscreen repair specialists Autoglaze, who estimate that over half of cars brought in with a cracked windscreen will inevitably fail their MOT.

March 2, 2009 - PRLog -- Windscreen inspections have been an essential part of the annual MOT test since 1993 and this is down to the fact that your windscreen provides up to 30 per-cent of your vehicles structural strength and the passenger airbag often relies on the windscreen for support if it is opened in the event of an accident.  Leaving a chip untreated is like a ticking time bomb, and could turn into a crack at any minute as a result of going over a speed bump or even a sudden change in temperature.

Gareth Kilburn, Director at Autoglaze, the national windscreen repair specialists, said, “So many people are failing their MOT down to something as simple as a chipped windscreen.  To get a chip repaired is so simple and in most cases, it will be covered by your comprehensive insurance policy.  Unfortunately for many, they take their car to get an MOT and get stung when the mechanic tells them that they have failed- and they have literally thrown £50 down the drain.”

If your windscreen chip is in the driver’s line of vision, it only has to be larger than 10mm for your windscreen to fail its MOT, it may also fail if there is significant scratching that impairs the driver’s vision.

Mr Kilburn added, “We invite customers to contact us with regards to windscreen quotes or further information and advice.  It can be concerning if you think you have left a chip a bit too long, but we are able to repair around 95 per-cent of windscreen chips with no problem at all.  It is much more cost effective to have a chip repaired than to pay for an MOT and have your vehicle fail.  If your vehicle does fail its MOT, you will still need to get it repaired, so it makes sense to explore this avenue first.  There really is no excuse for not getting a cracked windscreen repaired, as is only takes just under an hour and in most cases it is free”
