Radio City’s Supernaa Chadda gives Guest lecture at IIPM {Management Institute}

Learning is a continuous process of interaction. Every time one interacts with someone new, there is something new that the individual gets to learn from every such interaction. This is what the Guest Lecture program at IIPM aims to achieve.

Dec. 24, 2008 - PRLog -- Radio Jockeying: The Art and Science of Effective Communication

Ms. Supernaa Chadda, celebrated Radio Jockey-turned-producer on Radio City (FM 91.1) recently delivered a guest lecture session with a selected few students from the UGP batch (2006-09). The topic for the lecture was, “Radio Jockeying: The Art and Science of Effective Communication.”

Ms. Chadda cited examples from her experience (she had been a leading radio-jockey-cum-voice over artist) and pointed out how one can create an impact on the minds of the audience, even when speaking over the radio. She explained the students how an one-to-one communication is different from a one-to-many communication over a mass-media network.

“It is a real challenge… even if we are speaking on the radio, we still need to maintain a common rapport with every individual listener, so that the listener never feels cut-off from the entire program,” pointed out Ms. Chadda.

She illustrated how content, spontaneity and voice modulation plays a major role in making one RJ stand out from the rest, which thereby helps in creating a distinct brand identity for him or her (like Ulta Pulta Nitin or Delhi ki Mahek, etc.).

Ms Chadda pointed out that the general audience ranks a radio station’s success based on the Radio Jockey. He/she becomes synonymous with a program or a radio station and in certain cases, they are also hero-worshipped, as listeners tend to get influenced by those charming voices that mesmerize them at any particular time of the day. This makes the RJ’s responsibility even tougher, as they should be really thorough with what they speak, keep a neutral stance and be politically correct. “They can always express opinions but can never take stands as it could hurt the sentiments of people,” she commented.

During the speech, Ms. Chadda also discussed a little about the infotainment industry and the ongoing revolution in the mass-media sector. She even explained how a Radio Station works, what are the various departments involved in packaging a program (from developing content for the same to the individual responsibilities of various people involved with a specific program), amongst other key issues.

Students kept on interacting with her, unraveling various secrets of radio-jockeying. Ms. Chadda played some voice-overs from her collection, helping the students understand the importance of voice modulation.

At the end of the session, the audience was not only well-informed with the art and science of radio jockeying, but was even more excited to have got a chance to chat with “Simply Supernaa” live!!
