In contrast, a GIS specialist provides support to GIS end users. He needs to collect, compile, analyze and digitize geospatial and tabular data to produce maps and related products, maintain the accuracy of the GIS databases, technical files and documentation, perform complex analysis on data from various sources and programs, should have skills in relational database structures and design, geodatabase concepts and development practices, should coordinate geometry and should assist in all areas of spatial analysis.
