COMSTECH launches training course on science, technology and innovation

The course being conducted by COMSTECH is intended to develop concepts on the interactive relationship between human resource development, technology and other socio-economic policies leading to Innovation.
 
April 22, 2008 - PRLog -- (ISLAMABAD) Realizing weak capability of OIC member states in the formulation and implementation of Innovation Policy, COMSTECH Secretariat has organized a training course on Science, Technology and Innovation which has started here today and shall conclude on 16th of the next month. The course is intended to develop concepts on the interactive relationship between human resource development, technology and other socio-economic policies leading to Innovation. Teaching will be interactive with lectures followed by discussions and group assignments. The teaching faculty comprises of foreign and national scholars of international repute.

“We live in a world where dynamics of creating new knowledge and technological developments define national competitiveness. The national technology policy perspectives are changing as knowledge as key resource receives explicit recognition. Traditional supply oriented science and technology policy is being replaced with Innovation Policy which facilitates flow of knowledge between various actors in the building of National Innovation System.”, said Dr. STK Naim, COMSTECH Consultant while introducing the participants about the need for such courses and trainings on the first day of the Course being held at COMSTECH Secretariat building here in the capital.  

Students and researchers involved in development related studies, science and technology policy research, S&T and R&D managers and public servants involved in planning, management and promotion of science, technology and innovation policy are participating in the Course. Human Resource Development (HRD) Policy, Innovation Policy and Management are the main subjects of the course. Detail is available on COMSTECH website.

Researchers and professionals from Maldives, Sudan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, and Pakistan are participating in this residential course. COMSTECH is offering local hospitality and travel expenditure to a limited number of international participants selected on merit. The Pakistani participants have been sponsored by the nominating institutions.

The resource persons for month-long training course include Mr. Loikkanen Torsti, Senior Research Scientist from Finland, Dr. S.T.K Naim, Consultant, COMSTECH, Prof. Norman P. Clark from University of Sussex, UK, Dr. Mohsin Khan from India, Dr. Shaukat Hameed Khan, Member Planning Commission, Dr. Shafqat Farooq from PAEC, Dr. Rehana Siddiqui from PIDE, Dr. Amer Qureshi, Former LUMS Professor and other professionals.
