Iceland Express celebrates 5th anniversary

Sportacus, the superhero of children’s TV show Lazy Town, joined in the birthday celebrations of Iceland Express at Stansted Airport last week.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release)Mar 10, 2008 – Iceland Express, the low-cost airline which operates flights between London Stansted and Reykjavik in Iceland, celebrated five years of flying this week.

Much to the excitement of children at Stansted Airport, Sportacus, the main star of Lazy Town Live, the stage production of the children’s TV programme filmed in Iceland, performed a gymnastic routine in the check-in area.

Iceland Express also offered 5,000 seats at ₤53 on flights between Reykjavik and 5 European destinations to mark the special occasion.

“Iceland is in the world’s top 10 of ‘must see’ destinations and with Iceland Express set to add more flights onto their schedule from here, offering some of the lowest fares on the market and 50% discounts for children, this direct link to Reykjavik is set to continue being extremely popular for both our business and leisure passengers,” said Nick Barton, business development director at Stansted Airport.

Iceland Express began with just two routes in 2003, to London Stansted and Copenhagen, but the budget airline has since expanded to include 14 European destinations; Barcelona, Alicante, Berlin, London, Oslo, Paris, Eindhoven, Frankfurt, Basel, Billund, Friedrichshafen, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Stockholm.

Each week Iceland Express operates 11 low-cost flights to Iceland between Stansted and Reykjavik. 2008 will also see the airline commence direct flights between Reykjavik and Warsaw and between Akureyri and Egilsstadir in Iceland to Copenhagen in Denmark.
