PRLog -- LENOIR CITY, Tenn., -- Whites Tree Services is renewing its call for Knoxville-area homeowners to inspect ash trees on their property, as the emerald ash borer continues its spread across Tennessee more than fifteen years after the invasive beetle was first confirmed in the state at a Knox County truck stop along Interstate 40. According to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, emerald ash borer has now been confirmed in 66 of Tennessee's 95 counties since that 2010 detection.
Because the early damage happens beneath the bark, visible symptoms, including thinning in the upper canopy, D-shaped exit holes, and increased woodpecker activity, often don't appear until the infestation is already well advanced. Whites Tree Services recommends that homeowners with ash trees, identifiable by their compound leaves and diamond-patterned bark, have them inspected specifically for emerald ash borer activity before symptoms become obvious in the canopy. Treatment options remain effective when an infestation is caught early, while trees with extensive canopy loss are typically past the point where treatment is viable and become removal candidates instead, given the added safety risk that dead and dying ash trees pose once the wood weakens.
