ICT Innovations Publishes Awesome Asterisk, a Curated List of Open Source Asterisk Tools

Forty projects across thirteen sections, each one opened and checked before it went in. It fills an odd gap. The main awesome directory carries 622 curated lists and not one of them covers telephony, VoIP or SIP.

MULTAN, Pakistan - Sept. 11, 2026 - PRLog -- ICT Innovations has published Awesome Asterisk, a curated list of open source tools, libraries and resources for Asterisk. It went live on GitHub this week under a CC0 public domain licence, so anyone can copy it, fork it or lift entries out of it without asking permission.

Asterisk gives you call control and a media path. Almost everything else a real phone system needs sits outside it. The web interface, the dialler, the call recording, the monitoring, the security rules, the SIP proxy in front of it, all of that comes from other projects. Those projects are scattered across a decade of forum threads, blog posts that have gone offline and repositories nobody has touched since 2019. Finding the live ones takes an afternoon you would rather spend building something.

The list has 40 entries in 13 sections: official resources, distributions and web interfaces, ARI, AMI and AGI libraries, streaming call audio, voice AI, SIP proxies and session border control, media and RTP, testing and troubleshooting, security, contact centre and dialling, endpoints, and learning material.

The gap it fills is a strange one. The awesome.re directory, the umbrella list that indexes the rest, carries 622 curated lists. Not one of them covers telephony, VoIP, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, SIP or WebRTC. An industry that runs a large share of the world's call centres and business phone systems had no entry point there at all.

The list also passes awesome-lint, the official validator for the format, which checks structure, table of contents, licence, topics and link formatting.

Four of the 40 entries are software ICT Innovations maintains: asterisk-ami-node, asterisk-audiosocket, asterisk-ai-voice-agent and tvbench. Rather than quietly mixing them in, the list names all four in a Disclosure section near the bottom and invites anyone to challenge them.

The company has committed to maintaining it rather than publishing and walking away. Links get rechecked, stale projects come out, and new ones go in through issues and pull requests. There is a contributing guide covering what qualifies and what doesn't.
