![]() New Book Examines Evidence and Unresolved Questions in Lindsay Clancy MistrialJason Ansell's evidence-focused nonfiction account examines the psychiatric testimony, criminal-responsibility arguments and public record behind a trial that ended without a verdict.
The trial ended in a mistrial on September 4, 2026, after the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict. A mistrial is neither a conviction nor an acquittal. Lindsay Clancy has pleaded not guilty, and no final determination of criminal responsibility has been reached. The Last Man Standing organizes the public record into a documented account of the events preceding the deaths of Cora, Dawson and Callan Clancy; the psychiatric treatment and medication evidence presented at trial; the prosecution and defense positions; the competing expert testimony; and the Massachusetts criminal-responsibility standard the jurors were asked to apply. The book also examines the jury division reported following the mistrial while distinguishing public reporting from matters formally established in court. It does not identify or speculate about the juror at the center of the deadlock. "The jury did not deliver a final answer, and the book does not manufacture one," said Ansell. "My goal was to make the record easier to follow, explain why the evidence was interpreted differently, and separate established facts from arguments and speculation." Research and drafting took place during the proceedings, and the manuscript was finalized following the mistrial. The book reflects information available through its September 6, 2026 reporting cutoff. Later developments are treated as subsequent updates.
