PRLog -- U.S. capacity is moving to the center of the Contact Lenses Market story as Johnson & Johnson commits more than $1 billion to its Jacksonville, Florida, Vision operations. Announced June 15, the project combines a new distribution facility with advanced manufacturing and packaging technology, with the site targeted to be fully operational in 2028.
- Johnson & Johnson: The investment is designed to expand capacity for ACUVUE contact lenses and strengthen U.S. supply resilience; the company says its Jacksonville operation manufactures more than 1.7 billion ACUVUE lenses annually for U.S. patients.
- Jacksonville, Florida: Construction is underway on the new distribution facility, extending a site with more than 1.5 million square feet across manufacturing, research, distribution and operations.
- Workforce and capital: The project supports about 3,500 Jacksonville employees and forms part of Johnson & Johnson's broader $55 billion U.S. commitment to manufacturing, research and development, and technology through early 2029.
- Alcon: In results released Aug. 10, Alcon reported second-quarter contact-lens sales of $726 million, up 5% from a year earlier on both reported and constant-currency bases. Chief Executive David Endicott said contact lenses were continuing to gain share.
- FDA: On July 7, the agency found HOYA Illumina daily disposable, toric and multifocal soft contact lenses substantially equivalent through the 510(k) pathway, marking another recent product milestone in the U.S. market.
The developments point to a market where manufacturing scale, supply-chain resilience and product innovation are shaping competitive decisions. For the Contact Lenses Market, capital is flowing toward both the capacity to supply established brands and the launches needed to win share in a changing vision-care landscape.
