Nepal's Dogs Still Guarding Flooded Homes

HYDERABAD, India - Sept. 7, 2026 - PRLog -- A dog does really not understand what a flood is. It only understands one thing. This is where my family lives. So when water recedes and the house is simply gone, the dog stays anyway.

That is exactly what is happening across Nepal right now.

When the Water Took Everything, Loyalty Stays

In late August 2026 catastrophic flash floods tore through communities along the Nepal-China border. Entire neighborhoods were swept away within a few minutes. As of the latest count, hundreds of people have died, and thousands remain missing. Roads and bridges and homes across districts like Rasuwa and Nuwakot disappeared under mud and debris.

But somewhere in the middle of all that loss, something quieter has been breaking hearts online. Videos of dogs sitting alone in front of destroyed homes waiting for people who may never come back.

In Trishuli Bazaar one black and white dog still wearing its collar won't leave the muddy patch where its home used to stand. Rescue workers keep clearing debris around it. The dog doesn't move. Volunteers leave food and water, and it eats quietly and alone, with eyes still fixed on the road for its family.
