Before Jamaal Al-Din received the keys to his apartment at Capitol Plaza Apartments, his housing journey took him through an extraordinary series of setbacks, uncertainty and unexpected opportunities.

On July 24, 2026, the longtime independent media creator officially moved into his Boise apartment after being approved for public housing through BCACHA.

But only weeks earlier, Al-Din did not know where he would ultimately live.

Al-Din had lived at Interfaith Sanctuary for approximately 10 years. During another portion of his housing journey, he was staying at the Boise Rescue Mission.

When shelter capacity became limited, Al-Din was among residents required to leave.

That night, he slept on the streets.

The following day, he was fortunate to obtain temporary accommodations through Boise's Crisis Center, despite the organization not primarily functioning as a traditional homeless shelter.

After approximately eight days, another unexpected development occurred.

A case worker from the new Interfaith Sanctuary contacted Al-Din and told him that he could move into the organization's State Street location.

Then came the surprise.

His name had also come up for housing.

The weeks that followed became a process of case-management meetings, documentation and financial preparation.

Al-Din worked with Interfaith Sanctuary staff to address old debts that had surfaced during the housing process. He contacted creditors, established payment arrangements, made payments and supplied information concerning his income.

He also completed additional documentation requested during the housing process.

Eventually, the approval came.

Public housing.

Capitol Plaza Apartments.

The journey did not end there.

Interfaith Sanctuary helped make the transition even more meaningful by furnishing Al-Din's entire apartment.

After years of instability, he now had a home equipped with the basic furnishings necessary to begin a new chapter.

"For me, this is about more than housing," Al-Din said. "It's about finally having a foundation."

The journey from one night on the streets to a permanent home has become one of the most significant chapters in his independent-media career.
