Sell, Raise or Partner: India's SME Owners Weigh Their Options

IndiaBizForSale's August intake of 204 newly approved businesses — spanning hospitality to healthcare, with ticket sizes from a few crore to ₹160 crore, shows India's private business owners pursuing capital, partnerships and exits.

AHMEDABAD, India - Sept. 3, 2026 - PRLog -- Ask an Indian SME owner today whether they're looking to sell, and the honest answer is often "it depends." Some want a clean exit. Others want capital to expand while keeping control. That range of thinking is visible in IndiaBizForSale's latest monthly pipeline of newly approved businesses.

For August 2026, the platform approved 204 new businesses looking for buyers, businesses looking for capital, and situations in between. It's the mix, more than the count, that makes the month's intake worth a closer look.

Ticket sizes ranged widely: a running four-star hotel in Haridwar at ₹160 crore, a Chennai CNC business raising ₹25 crore in growth capital, and a Lucknow FMCG manufacturer raising ₹15 crore, alongside listings across healthcare, education and hospitality. None of this reflects a completed transaction; each figure is the size of opportunity or funding sought, as indicated by the owner at listing.

That distinction; raising capital versus seeking an exit, is often lost when SME activity gets lumped together as "M&A." The Chennai and Lucknow businesses aren't for sale; they're raising money to grow, with owners staying in control, while a hotel in the same pipeline may be closer to an exit. For an M&A advisor, that range is the real story: growth equity, full exits, and partial exits that bring in a strategic partner while the owner keeps a stake.

"Every business owner who comes to us is thinking about this differently," said Bhavin Bhagat, Co-founder, IndiaBizForSale. "Some want growth capital and nothing else. Others are open to a partial exit. Some are ready to sell outright. What we try to do is help each of them get specific about which of these they actually want."

With August's additions, the platform's pipeline spans 16,742 businesses and startups across 1,300+ locations and 205 industry categories. IndiaBizForSale positions itself as a marketplace giving visibility into India's private business transaction activity, not a stock exchange or securities platform.

Whether all 204 approvals eventually lead to a completed transaction depends on valuation, due diligence and negotiation, and typically plays out over months. What the pipeline offers now is a snapshot of how Indian business owners are approaching growth, capital and ownership, not as one decision, but a set of options weighed against each other.
