ICT Innovations Releases ictexam-mcp, an Open Source MCP Server for AI Exam Grading

The free, MIT-licensed tool connects AI assistants such as Claude to the ICTExam platform, letting them read gradebooks, analyze questions, and turn PDF papers into structured exams. Write actions stay off until the operator enables them.

MULTAN, Pakistan - Sept. 1, 2026 - PRLog -- ICT Innovations has published ictexam-mcp, a free and open source server that lets an AI assistant work directly with an ICTExam server. It is available now on npm and in the Model Context Protocol registry, and it runs with a single command.

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to real systems. ictexam-mcp uses it to give an assistant nine tools for the ICTExam assessment platform. Six are read only. An assistant can list exams, open a single exam, pull a gradebook, and read per-question item analysis such as difficulty and average marks. The other three change data and stay switched off until the operator turns them on.

The tool that has drawn the most interest parses a question paper. An operator hands it a PDF or a Word document, and ICTExam reads the paper and returns the questions as structured data, including type, options, correct answers, marks, and any mark scheme. In the company's own testing, a real paper came back as twenty-five ready-to-review questions.

Safety shaped the design. The server ships read only, and the three tools that write anything are not loaded at all unless the operator sets a single environment variable. Parsing a paper spends AI credit on the operator's own server and publishing makes an exam live for students, so both sit behind that switch on purpose. The server signs in with the operator's own account, and the password never leaves the machine that runs it.

ictexam-mcp is one of several MCP servers ICT Innovations is opening up across its product line, alongside servers for its telephony and contact center software. The company builds open source and commercial communication tools, including ICTExam, ICTContact, ICTFax, and ICTPBX.

Developers can install the server with the command npx -y ictexam-mcp and point it at their ICTExam site with three settings.
