IP2Location Upgrades IAB Domain Categories to Version 3.1

SARASOTA, Fla. - Sept. 1, 2026 - PRLog -- IP2Location has upgraded the domain categorization in its DB25 and DB26 databases from IAB Content Taxonomy v1.0 to the latest IAB Tech Lab Content Taxonomy v3.1.

To support the upgrade, the IP2Location team studied the taxonomy changes and developed a mapping algorithm to migrate existing v1.0 categories to v3.1. The mapping information has been incorporated into the DB25 and DB26 database generation process.

The upgrade also includes updates to the IP2Location IAB Categories page, which now reflects the latest IAB Content Taxonomy v3.1.

The domain category is based on IAB Tech Lab Content Taxonomy v3.1. These categories comprise Tier-1 through Tier-4 levels, where available, providing a structured and standardized approach to classifying domains and online content.

With this upgrade, IP2Location customers can benefit from a more current and standardized domain categorization structure for applications involving advertising, security, filtering, analytics, and web content classification.
