PRLog -- Book Series Allows Young Readers to Gain Self-Esteem
Abigail, The Masterpiece:
A Social Story About ADHD is the second book in the Savanna Tales children's series by educator Dr. Christie Elam. Her books highlight the sometimes challenging behaviors of children with behavioral or emotional disorders.
This beautifully illustrated tale is meaningful for children of all ages. It tells of Abigail, a meerkat, who is excited about an upcoming art contest on the savanna where she lives. Abigail is a creative creature who loves working with others. But the small mammal has ADHD, which stands for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, meaning she isn't able to focus well and can't stay still.
Abigail's attempts at finding others to work with for the contest fail. Instead, she creates an amazing piece of art all by herself. And along the way, she discovers that even though she is different from others, her talents prove she is the true masterpiece.
This series set in the rolling grasslands of Southern Africa helps young readers connect to the characters in a way that embraces their differences. It also celebrates them as special and precious creations.
