| ![]() BCOP invests £150,000 in future-ready emergency alarm systems for residents across BirminghamBCOP has invested approximately £150,000 to upgrade emergency alarm systems across its housing schemes as the UK moves from analogue to digital telephone networks.
By: Aardvark Marketing Consultants Every BCOP resident property is fitted with a 24-hour emergency alarm system, providing reassurance and rapid access to support when needed. The charity is now carrying out a phased programme of upgrades to ensure all systems remain reliable, resilient and fully compatible with the new digital network. Work has already been completed at BCOP's sheltered housing schemes at Whitley Court, Harvey Court and Edgcumbe Court, alongside independent living schemes at Walford Turner Homes, Newman Court and Frew Lodge. The remaining schemes across Birmingham are scheduled to be upgraded before the end of 2026. Helen Gore, CEO of BCOP, said: "This is a significant investment made by the charity. We wanted to be sure that every resident continues to feel safe and has the peace of mind that comes with having a modern, 24-hour emergency alarm system in their own home." The national digital switchover is being led by the telecommunications industry and will affect homes and organisations across the UK. Devices that rely on traditional analogue telephone lines, including some emergency alarm systems, may stop working correctly unless updated. By carrying out the work early and in phases, BCOP aims to minimise disruption for residents while ensuring every housing scheme is fully prepared ahead of the national deadline. The upgrade programme forms part of BCOP's ongoing commitment to providing safe, modern and supportive housing environments for older people across Birmingham.
