While Chrome and Edge Kill uBlock Origin, Snipe Browser Actively Maintains It

COVENT GARDEN, U.K. - Aug. 21, 2026 - PRLog -- Google Chrome killed uBlock Origin support in July 2025, forcing people to use workarounds or use the Lite version since. Microsoft Edge announced its own timeline on 7 August 2026, and users are already seeing notices appear in their browsers this month. Edge's target is to complete the consumer transition away from Manifest V2 extensions by the end of 2026.

If you use uBlock Origin on either browser, you will be left without it before the year is out. The reason both companies give is the same: they are transitioning from the older Manifest V2 extension framework to Manifest V3.

The reality (to us) is that the bulk of money in the search market is made from advertising. The V2 extensions are simply too good at restoring your privacy and security. We block all tracking and intrusive ad networks and only allow privacy-respecting ads through, the average user makes less than 1¢ a week for us (it's not amazingly monetizable). The major players have 2 choices (in our opinion): update their ads to be less intrusive, or block the very tools people use to silence their ads. And it seems to us they chose profit.

uBlock Origin is not just an ad blocker. It is a content filter with the ability to block trackers, malware domains, cookie banners, social media buttons, and custom cosmetic elements. Losing the full version is a degradation of the browsing experience for anyone who uses it seriously. The V3 Tool simply does not measure up.

Almost every article out there tells you Firefox is the only name in town to keep uBlock. Mozilla has publicly and explicitly committed to keeping full uBlock Origin support. Brave should be a major player here. Brave is a Chromium-based browser that has committed to keeping Manifest V2 extension support running for as long as it is physically possible. So the honest answer to "is Firefox the only option" is: no. And Brave is not the only alternative choice.

Snipe Browser is a privacy-focused browser built on Ungoogled Chromium. It ships with uBlock Origin compiled into the browser core. The blocking is active on the first page load of a fresh install, before you have opened a settings panel or visited an extension store.

Economic viability is not an issue for us; we do not track Chromium releases in real time. We aim to pick major security and engine releases to make sure you have a physically viable browser at all times. This is the same reason Snipe Browser is not affected by the Chrome or Edge changes. The ad blocking does not depend on any third party maintaining anything. It is simply in the browser. https://snipebrowser.com/
