Young Brits are not struggling to find dates, they are struggling to find people to do things with

LONDON - Aug. 21, 2026 - PRLog -- Half of Bfriendz users in the UK do not choose Dating when setting up their profile, according to new data from the social plans app. Of the users analysed:

49% chose Dating;

27% chose Let's See;

24% chose Friendship.

Dating is still the largest single choice. But relationships are only part of the picture. Nearly half of users — 51% — are looking for something else, whether that is friendship, company or simply someone to make plans with. The app is also most popular with younger adults, with 69% of Bfriendz users in the UK aged between 18 and 30.

For many of them, the immediate need is much less complicated than finding a partner. It is finding a gig mate, someone for Sunday coffee, another person who wants to try the same class, or simply someone who is free when their usual friends are busy.

The plan can come before the friendship

A lot of young Brits say they want to socialise more, but actually doing it is another story. An Opinium survey backs this up: 32% of Gen Z say they'd like more social time, while 44% admit meeting new people just feels hard. And even when plans do come together, fewer people are opting for formal dates or organised events — instead, they're leaning towards something more relaxed and low-key.
