Zyaku Launches Privacy-First GPS Layer For Emergency Rescue Location

SAN FRANCISCO - Aug. 21, 2026 - PRLog -- Zyaku, a creator-first social platform, has launched a privacy-first GPS layer for its Emergency Broadcast system, now live on Web and installed Progressive Web App. The feature allows a user in an emergency to optionally share their location with authorized responders, while ensuring the emergency message itself is never blocked by a location failure of any kind.

The system is built around a core principle: the emergency is the priority, and location is an optional enhancement to it. If GPS permission is denied, location data is unavailable, or a device cannot produce a fix, the emergency broadcast still publishes without location attached. Users choose between three explicit options when composing an emergency: sharing no location, an approximate area, or an exact position. Location capture only occurs after one of these choices is made, and the platform does not use continuous background tracking to obtain it.

Location precision is deliberately reduced before storage, with approximate sharing rounded to a neighborhood-level granularity and exact sharing rounded to a tighter, rescue-appropriate precision. Rescue location data is kept in a dedicated, encrypted private record separate from a user's public emergency post, so that location coordinates never appear in public feeds or standard post data. On Web and installed PWA, this data is stored locally in an encrypted format before being queued for transmission.

The system is designed to function fully offline. A user can capture and queue an emergency location without an active internet connection, and the system automatically attempts delivery once connectivity returns. To prevent outdated location data from being treated as current, the platform enforces a freshness window on captured location: if too much time has passed between capture and delivery, the emergency broadcast still sends, but the location is dropped rather than delivered as though current. Private rescue location records are also subject to a limited retention period rather than being stored indefinitely.

Before transmitting location data, the client verifies with the server that the receiving infrastructure supports the rescue location data format, preventing location data from being sent to a system not equipped to receive it. Verified location data reaches authorized responders through a dedicated, permissioned pathway, separate from the platform's standard public content systems.

"An emergency should never fail because location fails," said Rohit Kashyap, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Zyaku. "Location is something we ask for permission to add. It's never something the system requires to do its most basic job, which is making sure a message for help actually gets sent."
