From Fauci's "Follow the Science" to Silent Faith

Aug. 15, 2026 - PRLog -- Dr. Anthony Fauci first became a household name during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the White House Coronavirus Task Force, Fauci's press briefings made him the most recognized public face of the American scientific response.  Though he did not coin the phrase "follow the science," Fauci popularized it.  To those in the scientific community, follow the science" means using empirical evidence to guide decisions and public policy. For religious communities, the phrase "follow the science" was perceived as a direct challenge to faith and religious beliefs. This tension created a profound cultural rift. It forced a clash between the state's duty to protect public health and the constitutional or spiritual right to exercise religious freedom.

COVID means or has an actual association with gatherings that was perpetuated during the lockdowns.  Writers and social commentators broke down the word "COVID" as a cultural descriptor of how the pandemic forced humanity to live:

• CO- as a prefix from Latin meaning "with, together, or in association".
• -VID as a shorthand abbreviation for Video.

Under this cultural definition, "COVID" was redefined as "together through video, and only through video." This captured the specific reality of the pandemic era: because physical gatherings were completely halted to slow transmission, human connection was forced to survive entirely through screens—resulting in the era of video school, video weddings, video funerals, and video church services.

Religious freedom was tested.  Specifically, the First Amendment Free Exercise Clause -- that Congress cannot prohibit "the free exercise thereof."  Covid did not only result in covering our face with masks, it put a gag between our lips and silenced human expressions of faith. In a twist of faith, talkative Dr. Fauci was silent, invoking his Fifth Amendment right more than 100 times during a high-profile Senate committee hearing.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread, compounding damage. The most direct harm was the catastrophic loss of life. The World Health Organization estimates global "excess mortality" at tens of millions of people worldwide. School closures disrupted the education of more than 1.6 billion children worldwide resulting in "learning poverty" from deep, generational gaps in reading and mathematics.  Millions of survivors continue to suffer from post-COVID conditions like severe fatigue, cognitive impairment ("brain fog"), and cardiovascular issues.

The True Science for World recovery from the enormity or weight of COVID calls for great Faith.   Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."   So what is faith?  Hebrews 11:1:  Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
