SINGAPORE - Aug. 13, 2026 - PRLog -- One of Germany's largest beverage filling operations, Darguner Brauerei, has significantly improved the reliability of its can printing inspection process by implementing an igus® drylin® stainless steel XY table. The solution enables precise camera positioning for quality control, helping the brewery reduce costly printing errors and downtime while enhancing production efficiency.

Producing up to three million hectolitres of beverages annually, Darguner Brauerei supplies beer, energy drinks, mineral water and other beverages to customers worldwide. With canning lines operating at speeds of up to 45,000 cans per hour, ensuring accurate printing of best-before and filling dates is critical. Previously, printing errors could result in thousands of faulty cans passing through production before detection.

To address this challenge, the brewery introduced an automated camera inspection system that checks every second can. The key to the system's accuracy is the igus drylin® SLW-XY table, which allows the camera to be positioned with exceptional precision. Because the camera's focal point must remain exactly 11 millimetres above the can, adjustments are required for different can sizes while maintaining perfect alignment.

The compact, stainless steel XY table provides smooth and accurate movement in both axes through integrated handwheels with position indicators. Built with iglidur® high-performance polymer bearings, the system is completely lubrication-free, maintenance-free, corrosion-resistant and chemical-resistant, making it ideal for demanding food and beverage environments exposed to water and cleaning agents.

"The XY table works, it can be adjusted very precisely and it runs smoothly," said Michael Wegner, Head of Automation at Darguner Brauerei.

The brewery reports that the combination of the inspection camera and drylin® linear technology has reduced a potential failure rate of up to 20,000 defective cans in worst-case scenarios to virtually zero. The solution was implemented within four months and has received positive feedback from production personnel due to its ease of use and clean, lubricant-free operation.

Beyond the canning line, Darguner Brauerei continues to expand its use of igus motion plastics®, including igubal® spherical bearings, iglidur® plain bearings and E4.38L energy chains, to lower maintenance costs and improve operational reliability across its production facilities.

Encouraged by the results, the brewery is already planning additional projects with igus, including a second drylin® XY table for another canning line, as well as exploring 3D-printed automation components and Apiro® positioning solutions to further optimise production performance.
