Mary Magdalene Pilgrimage in Provence, France: A Transformative Spiritual Journey

SAINT-MAXIMIN-LA-SAINTE-BAUME, France - Aug. 10, 2026 - PRLog -- SAINT-MAXIMIN-LA-SAINTE-BAUME, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France — From August 20–28, 2026, seekers from around the world are invited to embark on Mary Magdalene in Provence, an immersive nine-day spiritual pilgrimage through the sacred landscapes, historic sites, and centuries-old traditions associated with Mary Magdalene in southern France.

More than a traditional tour, the pilgrimage combines an outward journey through the history, art, and sacred places of Provence with an inward journey of contemplation, spiritual connection, and transformation.

Participants will visit significant sites associated with traditions surrounding Mary Magdalene, including Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, Aix-en-Provence, Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, Marseille, the Saint-Pons forest, the Orthodox Monastery of Saint-Michel du Var, and the Sainte-Baume grotto.

The journey begins along the Mediterranean at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, traditionally associated with the arrival of Mary Magdalene and her companions in Provence. Participants will continue through Aix-en-Provence before visiting the Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene in Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, built beginning in the 13th century to house relics traditionally attributed to Mary Magdalene.

In Marseille, participants will explore traditions surrounding Mary Magdalene's preaching and the city's early Christian history. Other experiences include a contemplative walk through the Saint-Pons forest, an exploration of Mary Magdalene in sacred art, and a visit to the Orthodox Monastery of Saint-Michel du Var.

A culminating experience takes place at La Sainte-Baume, traditionally regarded as Mary Magdalene's final home, where participants will ascend through the ancient forest to the grotto along a path traveled by pilgrims for centuries.

A Pilgrimage Guided by History, Spirituality and Living Tradition

The journey is hosted by Veronique Flayol, founder of Magdalene Sacred Journeys, whose family has served as guardians of Mary Magdalene's relics at Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume for more than 300 years.

The faculty also includes Jim Garrison, PhD, President of Ubiquity University and Co-Director of the Chartres Academy; Andrew Harvey, PhD (Hons), mystic, poet, and internationally renowned spiritual teacher; and Banafsheh Sayyad, MFA, MA, sacred dancer, choreographer, and Co-Director of the Ubiquity Chartres Academy.

The pilgrimage includes eight nights of accommodations with breakfast, most lunches, welcome and farewell dinners, transportation, and opportunities to experience Provençal culture and landscapes.

The pilgrimage runs August 20–28, 2026, concluding with group transportation to Marseille Airport.
