Lewis joins Rotary during a special event that also welcomes 20 students and advisors participating in Rotary District 7475's 48-year Youth Exchange Program with Japan. The evening highlights Rotary's ability to connect local communities with a worldwide network dedicated to goodwill, understanding, and peace. In July 2025, Lewis made history as the first Jamaican American woman elected President of the East Orange Chamber of Commerce. She has devoted her career to strengthening businesses, empowering entrepreneurs, and building partnerships that create opportunities for communities to grow and thrive. Her induction reflects Rotary's tradition of bringing together community leaders who share a commitment to Service Above Self. Through her leadership in business and economic development, Lewis has championed collaboration, innovation, and community engagement. "Service is most meaningful when it brings people together to make a lasting difference," Anna D. Banks, Rotary District 7475 Public Image Chair and Lewis's Rotary sponsor, shared that Lewis represents the type of leader Rotary seeks to welcome. "Monique represents the kind of leader Rotary seeks—someone committed to serving others, building connections, and strengthening communities," The Rotary Club of West Orange selected an especially meaningful evening for Lewis's induction. As Japanese exchange students prepare to begin the second week of their New Jersey experience with new Rotary host families, members will also welcome a respected civic leader into an organization whose reach extends around the world. The evening symbolizes Rotary's belief that lasting impact is created through relationships. Whether mentoring young people, supporting communities, or building international friendships, Rotary provides opportunities for leaders to serve beyond their professions and hometowns. Lewis's induction represents a new chapter of service and an opportunity to strengthen connections among business, civic organizations, and community leaders dedicated to improving lives.
