AURANGABAD, India - Aug. 7, 2026 - PRLog -- HOW SAMSUNG SPLITS ITS UPDATE SCHEDULE

Samsung divides every Galaxy device into two update speeds. The faster
tier delivers a new software patch almost every month with the latest
security fixes and new Android versions while eligible. The slower tier
delivers updates once every three months with security patches only and
no major Android upgrades. As a Galaxy phone ages, Samsung moves it from
the faster tier to the slower one before eventually retiring it from
updates completely.

HOW LONG SAMSUNG SUPPORT LASTS

Newer flagships from the Galaxy S24 series onward, along with the Z Fold5
and Z Flip5 onward, carry a total support window of seven years from
launch. Of that, roughly six years receive monthly updates and the final
year shifts to quarterly updates. Older flagships like the S23 series
fall under Samsung's previous policy of four major Android upgrades and
five years of security patches, still a strong commitment but shorter
than the seven-year promise on newer models.

SAMSUNG VS GOOGLE PIXEL VS ONEPLUS

Samsung and Google Pixel are now tied at seven years of OS and security
updates for their newest flagships. OnePlus currently offers four years
of major Android updates and six years of security patches on its latest
models, trailing both Samsung and Pixel on how long devices receive new
Android versions and features.

DEVICES ON QUARTERLY UPDATES AUGUST 2026

Quarterly updates cover older foldables including Z Fold3 5G and Z Flip3
5G, older S series including S22 lineup and S21 FE 5G, and the full A
series, M series, F series, C series, and Tab A series across dozens of
models including A04 through A73 5G, M04 through M56 5G, and F04 through
F56 5G.

ONE UI 9 ROLLOUT STATUS

One UI 9 is already stable on the Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, currently in wide
beta for the S26 lineup, and beta programs for the S25 series and last
year's foldables including Fold 7 and Flip 7 are expected to open within
the coming weeks based on Samsung's usual rollout pattern.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SUPPORT ENDS

When a Galaxy device reaches the end of its support window, the phone
continues working normally but stops receiving new Android versions and
eventually security patches, making it gradually more vulnerable to
newly discovered security threats even though day-to-day performance
does not change.
