igus Launches Lubrication-Free Hybrid Ball Bearing to Reduce Overhead Conveyor Downtime

SINGAPORE - Aug. 2, 2026 - PRLog -- igus a global leader in motion plastics and lubrication-free components, has introduced a new xiros® hybrid ball bearing designed to significantly improve the reliability of overhead conveyor systems operating in dusty and demanding environments. Combining stainless steel with advanced high-performance plastics, the new bearing enables lubrication-free, maintenance-free operation while supporting loads of up to 39kg.

As industries and logistics operators seek higher efficiency and reduced downtime, overhead conveyors play a vital role in moving goods and workpieces quickly while maximizing floor space. However, conventional metal bearings often rely on oil lubrication, which can attract dust and debris, leading to deposits, increased friction, and potential system failures.

The key advantage of the new xiros ball bearing lies in its lubrication-free design. Manufactured using xirodur® B180 high-performance polymer, the bearing operates with low friction in dry-running conditions, eliminating the need for grease or oil. This helps prevent dirt accumulation and ensures smooth operation, even in dust-prone industries such as textiles, packaging, and manufacturing. Additionally, the outer race runs directly on aluminium profiles, simplifying system design and reducing costs compared to traditional steel bearing solutions.

To meet customer demands for higher load capacity, igus developed a hybrid construction that combines stainless steel inner races and load balls with a cage made from iglidur® J3 high-performance polymer. This innovative design provides a load capacity of up to 39kg, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial and logistics applications, including furniture manufacturing, packaging systems, and material handling equipment.

The new xiros hybrid ball bearings are available in three sizes with inner diameters of 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm, as well as a version featuring a spherical outer race for particularly smooth operation in aluminum guide profiles.

With this latest innovation, igus continues to expand its portfolio of maintenance-free, lubrication-free polymer bearings, helping manufacturers improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and increase operational efficiency.
