| 2026 Tapestry of Black Voices Awards Celebrate Conversations That Document Contemporary Black LifeNational intergenerational conversation initiative spotlights local voices shaping Black communities across America
The 2026 Tapestry of Black Voices Awards (TBVA) were created to celebrate those voices. Presented annually by Conversations in Color, the awards recognize authentic conversations between everyday people that document the experiences, values, challenges, and aspirations of Black communities. Rather than rewarding celebrity status or social media influence, TBVA honors conversations that preserve contemporary Black life for future generations. This year's winning conversations came from Milledgeville, Georgia; Chicago, Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Gastonia, North Carolina; Queens, New York; Riverside, California; and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, demonstrating that meaningful conversations are happening in communities across America. Winners were announced during the organization's Juneteenth livestream, available at https://www.youtube.com/ Each year, the awards are presented by a youth host, creating an intergenerational experience that encourages younger generations to engage with the wisdom and perspectives of those who came before them. The featured conversations include family members, friends, mentors, business owners, educators, and community leaders. The 2026 program received 47 qualified submissions from 10 states across seven award categories following nationwide outreach to Black nonprofits, churches, chambers of commerce, Black-owned businesses, HBCUs, and community organizations. "The people who most shape our day-to-day lives aren't celebrities," Unlike traditional media awards, TBVA values authenticity, meaningful conversation, and community impact. Every submission becomes part of a growing archive documenting 21st-century Black life. The organization is now preparing for the 2027 Tapestry of Black Voices Awards and encourages communities nationwide to participate. Learn more at https://conversationsincolor.org. End
