Cold Chain Infrastructure Subsidy Benefits Drive New Investments in India's Food Processing Sector

NAGPUR, India - July 23, 2026 - PRLog -- India's food processing industry continues to witness growing investment in cold chain infrastructure as businesses seek to leverage the Cold Chain Infrastructure Subsidy benefits available under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). Through the Integrated Cold Chain & Value Addition Infrastructure Scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), the Government supports the development of modern temperature-controlled infrastructure to reduce post-harvest losses and improve food supply chain efficiency.

PMKSY Scheme Supports Integrated Cold Chain Development
The scheme promotes the creation of an integrated cold chain network connecting farm-level infrastructure, food processing facilities, cold storage, distribution centres, and refrigerated transportation. By strengthening every stage of the supply chain, the initiative aims to improve food preservation, increase product shelf life, and enhance market access for agricultural and processed food products.

Cold Chain Infrastructure Subsidy Benefits for Eligible Projects
Eligible projects may receive financial assistance of 35% of the eligible project cost in General Areas and 50% in Difficult Areas, as well as for eligible SC/ST promoters, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), and Self Help Groups (SHGs), subject to a maximum grant of ₹10 crore per project.

Infrastructure Components Covered Under the Scheme
The scheme supports a wide range of infrastructure required for an efficient cold chain ecosystem, including:
  • Collection centres and pre-cooling facilities
  • Sorting, grading, and packing units
  • Dairy and milk processing plants
  • Meat, poultry, fisheries, and seafood processing units
  • Blast freezers and IQF processing facilities
  • Multi-temperature cold storage warehouses
  • Controlled atmosphere storage
  • Refrigerated trucks, vans, and insulated transport vehicles
  • Value addition and packaging infrastructure
Growing Demand for Food Processing Infrastructure
The expansion of India's food processing industry has increased the need for modern cold chain facilities capable of maintaining product quality throughout storage and transportation. Industry stakeholders believe that integrated projects combining processing, storage, logistics, and value addition can improve operational efficiency while reducing food wastage.

The Cold Chain Infrastructure subsidy benefits (https://finraja.com/cold-chain-infrastructure-subsidy-2025/) further support such investments by improving project viability and encouraging the development of end-to-end cold chain infrastructure.

"The Cold Chain Infrastructure Subsidy benefits under the PMKSY scheme can play an important role in strengthening India's food processing and cold chain ecosystem. By supporting integrated infrastructure, the scheme encourages investments that improve supply chain efficiency, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance value addition.." said by a spokesperson from Finraja.
