| Japanese Papercraft Software ePaperCraft SHIRYU Launches on Steam After 20 YearsWindows creativity tool turns 3D models into printable templates and real paper creations, with more than 70 ready-to-build models included.

Users can create and edit a simple 3D model on a PC, unfold it into printable paper parts, arrange the layout, print the template, and assemble the finished object with paper, scissors, and glue. The software includes more than 70 ready-to-build models and also provides tools for creating original designs. It is intended for hobbyists, educators, makers, artists, families, and first-time papercraft designers rather than industrial CAD/CAM or precision manufacturing. The project has been developed continuously for more than 20 years by Japanese engineer and creator Takahiro Yonemura. Its roots go back to Yonemura's original papercraft modeling software, "A Development of Papercraft Modeling Software," which was named a Jury Selection in the Entertainment Division of the 10th Japan Media Arts Festival. The Steam release is an expanded and improved successor that carries the same creative concept forward. Beyond releasing a software product, the project aims to introduce Japan's culture of paper making and hands-on creativity to an international audience. SHIRYU lets an idea move from a computer screen into a physical object that users can cut, fold, hold, display, and share. The user interface and help documentation are in English. The application has also been tested successfully on Japanese-language Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems. No generative AI was used to create the program code or the included models. ePaperCraft SHIRYU will be available for Windows through Steam at a regular price of US$4.99 / JPY 655.
