July 21, 2026 - PRLog -- JobsSouthAfrica.co.za has published an independent analysis of Public Service Vacancy Circular 25 of 2026, revealing significant recruitment trends across South Africa's public sector.

After analysing the 392-page circular issued by the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), the report found 1,963 government vacancies across 34 national and provincial departments, providing one of the most detailed breakdowns of government recruitment currently available.

Key Findings

• 1,963 government vacancies advertised.
• 34 departments and provincial entities recruiting.
• Eastern Cape Department of Health accounts for 1,244 vacancies, representing almost two-thirds of all advertised positions.
• 70.8% of all vacancies are located in the Eastern Cape.
• Highest advertised salary exceeds R2.48 million per year.
• Around 67% of vacancies are entry-level Salary Level 5 or below.
• Most vacancies close between 31 July and 3 August 2026.

The report highlights that while the overall vacancy total appears exceptionally high, much of the recruitment activity is driven by one large hiring campaign within the Eastern Cape Department of Health. Without this recruitment drive, total vacancies would be substantially lower, demonstrating why analysing the data provides more useful insight than simply counting advertised posts.

The analysis also shows continued demand across administrative, healthcare, agriculture, finance, IT, engineering and legal occupations, while graduate programmes and learnerships remain limited in this edition of the Public Service Vacancy Circular.

According to the report, salary levels range from approximately R144,024 per annum for entry-level support positions to more than R2.48 million for senior specialist and executive-level roles.
