igus Launches New Overhead Cable Guide to Simplify EV Charging for E-Lorries and E-Cars

SINGAPORE - July 13, 2026 - PRLog -- As the adoption of electric trucks, buses and coaches continues to grow, logistics centres, freight terminals and bus depots are facing a new challenge: managing heavy charging cables safely and efficiently. To address this, igus, the global specialist in motion plastics, has introduced the e-tract DC horizontal, an innovative overhead cable guide system designed specifically for commercial electric vehicles.

The new e-tract DC horizontal moves charging cable management off the ground and into the air, delivering greater convenience for drivers while reducing cable wear, infrastructure damage and theft risks. The system can be installed as a standalone solution or mounted onto existing structures above vehicle bays.

At the heart of the solution is a guided trough containing the charging cable in a loop. Using a conveyor mechanism, the system automatically lowers the charging connector to the vehicle when activated, allowing drivers to connect even heavy Megawatt Charging System (MCS) cables with minimal effort.

"Thanks to automated cable lowering, drivers can connect high-power charging cables without physical strain, making the charging process significantly more ergonomic and attractive," said Christoph Koch, Product Manager e-chains at igus.

Unlike conventional ground-based charging systems, the igus overhead cable management system keeps cables away from vehicle traffic, reducing the risk of collisions, cable abrasion and costly downtime. This is particularly valuable in busy logistics hubs, ports and public charging yards where operational reliability is critical.

The solution also addresses a growing industry concern: charging cable theft. With copper theft from EV charging infrastructure on the rise, the retractable overhead design keeps cables out of reach when not in use, significantly enhancing security and reducing replacement costs.

In addition to the DC version for commercial vehicles, igus is also introducing an AC version of the e-tract horizontal for electric passenger cars. Designed for space-constrained environments such as underground and multi-storey car parks, the compact system mounts directly above parking spaces and lowers the charging cable at the push of a button, eliminating clutter and improving user convenience.
