Methyl Cellulose Prices: Trend, Chart, Index, Market Analysis, and Forecast

Methyl Cellulose Prices in the United States moved higher on a quarter-over-quarter basis, primarily supported by rising producer costs and firm industrial demand.

NEW YORK - July 13, 2026 - PRLog -- Methyl Cellulose Prices in the United States moved higher on a quarter-over-quarter basis, primarily supported by rising producer costs and firm industrial demand. Manufacturing expenses increased throughout the quarter, with the Methyl Cellulose Production Cost Trend reflecting higher operating costs as the Producer Price Index (PPI) advanced by 4.0% year-over-year in March 2026. Inflationary conditions also contributed to a positive pricing environment, as the Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed 3.3% year-over-year, reinforcing a bullish Methyl Cellulose Price Forecast.

In China, Methyl Cellulose Prices also recorded a quarter-over-quarter increase during Q1 2026, largely driven by escalating production costs and higher energy expenses. The Methyl Cellulose Production Cost Trend strengthened toward the end of March as liquid caustic soda prices increased, raising manufacturing costs for cellulose ether producers.

Despite higher production expenses, demand from the construction industry weakened considerably during the quarter. A sharp decline in new housing starts reduced consumption across building material applications, resulting in a softer Methyl Cellulose Demand Outlook. Nevertheless, the Methyl Cellulose Price Forecast remained positive as rising crude oil prices significantly increased energy and transportation costs, supporting higher selling prices.

China's broader industrial economy continued to provide market support. Industrial production expanded by 5.7% in March 2026, while manufacturing activity remained in expansion territory, sustaining demand from industrial chemical consumers. Consumer inflation increased by 1.0%, and factory-gate prices rose 0.5%, adding further cost-push pressure across the chemical sector. Meanwhile, retail sales posted a modest 1.7% increase, reflecting cautious consumer spending that limited growth in retail-oriented chemical applications.

Germany witnessed a quarter-over-quarter increase in Methyl Cellulose Prices during the first quarter of 2026, supported primarily by elevated regional energy costs and stronger feedstock prices. The Methyl Cellulose Production Cost Trend remained upward as consumer inflation reached 2.7% in March 2026, increasing overall manufacturing expenses.

Although Germany's producer prices declined by 0.2% during March, lower upstream pricing was insufficient to offset rising energy costs, allowing the Methyl Cellulose Price Index to continue strengthening.
