GoTo Telemed Urges Vigilance as CDC Reports 2025–2026 Flu Season Among Most Severe for Children

KALISPELL, Mont. - July 10, 2026 - PRLog -- GoTo Telemed, a nationwide integrated telehealth ecosystem serving over 10 million patients, today urged Americans to remain vigilant as the CDC classified the 2025–2026 flu season as "high severity for children," with at least 143 pediatric deaths—85% of whom were not fully vaccinated. Among children, vaccination reduced the risk of emergency visits by 47% and hospitalizations by 47%.

Due to a mismatch with the dominant H3N2 subclade K strain that emerged in late 2025, adult vaccine effectiveness was reduced to 25–30%. However, all tested viruses remained susceptible to antivirals including oseltamivir. The CDC continues to recommend annual vaccination for all persons aged ≥6 months, ideally in September or October.

In a landmark move, the FDA's VRBPAC panel voted unanimously to recommend Moderna's mRNA-1010 flu vaccine for adults aged 50 and older—marking the first mRNA flu vaccine to receive U.S. approval. The vaccine showed 27% higher efficacy than standard-dose shots. A final FDA decision is expected by August 5, 2026, potentially making it available for the 2026–2027 season.

GoTo Telemed offers same‑day virtual visits for flu evaluation, antiviral prescribing, and vaccination guidance.
