| GoTo Telemed Launches Tetanus Awareness Initiative as U.S. Cases Reach Near 20‑Year HighBy: Go TO TELEMED Tetanus is caused by Clostridium tetani bacteria found in soil, dust, and manure. The bacteria enter through breaks in the skin—punctures, cuts, burns, or animal bites—and produce a toxin that attacks the nervous system. The first sign is often lockjaw, followed by painful muscle spasms and breathing difficulty. Even with intensive care, 1 in 10 cases are fatal. "Tetanus is completely preventable, yet cases are rising simply because too many Americans are not up to date on boosters," said a GoTo Telemed spokesperson. "A simple shot every 10 years can save your life." Prevention: The CDC recommends all adults receive a tetanus booster every 10 years. Pregnant women should receive Tdap during the third trimester of each pregnancy. Wound Care: Deep punctures, contamination with dirt or saliva, or animal bites require prompt evaluation. Depending on vaccination history, a tetanus booster or human tetanus immune globulin (TIG) may be needed. GoTo Telemed encourages all Americans to check their vaccination records and schedule a booster if unsure or it has been more than 10 years since their last dose. Virtual consultations are available nationwide. Media Contact: GoTo Telemed Media Relations info@gototelemed.com (660) 628-1660 https://gototelemed.com/ End
