Premier African American Classics Collection To be Housed at Nationally Renowned Los Angeles African American Resource Library

LOS ANGELES - June 25, 2026 - PRLog -- Political analyst and author Earl Ofari Hutchinson for more than a half century has collected original and first editions of the greatest works by 19th and early 20^th century African American writers and thinkers. Hutchinson announced that on Saturday June 27 the priceless collection will be housed in perpetuity at the AC Bilbrew Library's Black Resource Center in Los Angeles. The library has often been deemed the Schomberg Library of the West. It is the repository of one of the largest collections of African American works in the country.

"Scholars, researchers, students, and the general community will now have permanent access to some of the greatest works by African Authors in politics and literature," says Hutchinson, " These are works that have helped shaped and define culture as well as political and social epoch making events and developments in America."

The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection is wholly comprised of 0ne hundred first editions and first edition reprints of original classic works of literary, historic, and political works by or about acclaimed African American writers, historians, and political leaders from the 19th and early 20th century. Among the original editions are W.E.B. DuBois, The Souls of Black Folks, Richard Wright, Native Son, James Baldwin, Another Country, Bookert T. Washington, Up from Slavery, and Helen Holdredge Mammy Pleasant.
