What Happened in April '26?

Life was simple after Brexit for years. A French or Spanish vet would issue a pet passport.Once issued, it could be used for years and made travelling much simpler. You used it on all journeys, without hesitation.

Thousands of UK owners did just this. It worked. Nobody stopped it.

But the EU had already passed a law back in 2016 saying pet passports are only for people living inside the EU. It was so complicated, they let people 10 years to figure it out.

Most pet owners either forgot about the rule or never knew it existed.This ten year period ended on 22nd of April 2026. From that day, if you live in England, Scotland or Wales, that passport is done. If issued by a French vet last summer, it doesn't matter if the rabies stamp is still valid. The passport no longer functions.
