Asia Nuclear Energy & SMR Development Gains Momentum as summit Focuses on Regional Deployment

CENTRAL, Singapore - June 15, 2026 - PRLog -- Rising electricity demand, industrial growth and increasingly ambitious decarbonisation targets are driving renewed interest in nuclear energy and small modular reactors (SMRs) across Asia. As governments seek reliable low-carbon generation to complement renewable energy while strengthening energy security, the region is entering a new phase of nuclear planning and investment.

Against this backdrop, Asia Nuclear Energy & SMR 2026, organized by Centre for Management Technology (CMT), will be held on 30 June–1 July 2026 in Singapore, bringing together policymakers, regulators, utilities, technology developers, investors and industrial energy users to explore the policies, financing models and partnerships needed to accelerate nuclear deployment.

Singapore provides a timely setting for the summit, serving as a regional financial and innovation hub while continuing to study the potential role of advanced nuclear technologies in its long-term energy strategy.

Key sessions will examine Singapore's nuclear readiness, the Philippines' deployment roadmap, Vietnam's renewed focus on Generation III+ technologies, India's evolving nuclear market reforms, and regional developments in Thailand and Indonesia. Discussions will also address the International Atomic Energy Agency's milestone approach to nuclear infrastructure development, financing advanced nuclear projects, supply chain localization, workforce development and public engagement.

A major focus of the summit is the commercialization of SMRs. Case studies include Korea's i-SMR strategy and GE Vernova's experience with the Darlington SMR project, alongside discussions on the role of advanced nuclear technologies in supporting energy-intensive industries and the rapid growth of AI-driven data centres.

The program brings together expertise from the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, the International Energy Agency (IEA), the Philippine Department of Energy, the Office of Atoms for Peace (Thailand), the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM), the Indian Nuclear Society, PT PLN Puslitbang, TNB Power Generation (Genco), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), HSBC Singapore, the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute (SNRSI) and the S.
