 KidSpirit's Summer Issue Highlights Youth Writing and Art on the Theme "Friendship"By: KidSpirit Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the all-youth Editorial Board. This season, the editors ask, "When is it ok to let a friend go?" In her response, a teen writer reflects on her personal experiences to evaluate when ending a relationship may be best for everyone involved. Other pieces released today include an article on the need for human companionship in the digital age, a reflection on the nature of friendship in Pakistani tradition, a beautiful meditation on the enduring lesson of childhood hide-and-seek games, an essay on how accepting help transformed a sibling relationship, a review of the movie Grown Ups, and a short story about finding a long-awaited kindred spirit. Throughout the season, KidSpirit will continue to publish writing, poetry, artwork, and video by youth on this theme. In Features, writers will delve into the defining traits of true friendship. The Interfaith Connections department will feature a piece on weaving together various traditions that all emphasize hospitality, and young reviewers will give their takes on the television show The Paper and the movie A Real Pain in the Media section. The Fiction and Poetry departments will showcase more creative writing on the topic from lyrical young authors around the world. Each issue of KidSpirit features additional wisdom from one adult with expertise in the theme in a column called PerSpectives. This season's article will come from Nina Badzin, a writer and host of the podcast Dear Nina: Conversations About Friendship.
